HOnz: what's available? August 2023

Since the last update, HOnz has gone from strength to strength. There's commercial ready-to-run locomotives about to be released in Australia, there's 30" wheelsets now available, wagon kitsets now available... and more to come! Locomotives Northyard Engineering has supplied six of their A-1-A 12mm gauge chassis. I've got another two on order. Neil Ward has been assembling these - a complete example under Neil's excellent DBR class 3D print is below: SDS/CGL models have announced Queensland Rail 1460/1502 class will be available in four weeks. My uncle, a former driver for Tranz Metro and long-time model train enthusiast and my grandfather built a loop of Hornby set track, and I was, no pun intended, hooked. Fast forward to homeownership and all its many joys, I finally had my own space in a single-car garage that was too small to fit a single car in. I started building a 1:64 scale layout but found that there wasn't enough space to run the sorts of modern-era trains I wanted. I made the decision to focus on the era I knew best, the late 1980s to the mid-1990s, when I grew up in Pukerua Bay north of Porirua. That means longer trains of bogie wagons and limited four-wheel wagons. HOnz scale NZR models: what's available?

Since getting into New Zealand model railways in HO scale on 12mm gauge track (which I'm now calling "HOnz"), I've launched my own 3D printing model business called 3 Foot 6 Models , using designs under license from numerous New Zealand designers. The goal is to provide NZR modellers with a Shapeways-like store where they can buy 3D printed shells of wagons, locomotives and other items, with a focus on NZ120 and HOnz scales.
