Since the last update, HOnz has gone from strength to strength. There's commercial ready-to-run locomotives about to be released in Australia, there's 30" wheelsets now available, wagon kitsets now available... and more to come!
Locomotives
Northyard Engineering has supplied six of their A-1-A 12mm gauge chassis. I've got another two on order. Neil Ward has been assembling these - a complete example under Neil's excellent DBR class 3D print is below:
With more TT:120 locos being released by Hornby, I've acquired a Hornby class 08 0-6-0 shunting loco in the scale, which of course has 12mm gauge track as well. The chassis looks perfect for a DS/DSA type shunting locomotive. I've got as far as taking the covers off etc to get general dimensions:
The big news for HOnz this quarter is that NZR 30" (762mm) wheelsets are now available. My thanks to Frank at SARMODEL for making this possible. We now have accurate wheelsets to under wagons, carriages etc.
Bogies
As mentioned in the last update, Frank at SARMODEL has also designed type 14 bogies for 3D printing, now available via 3 Foot 6 Models. Frank also has type 16 bogies and its variations in the works.
Wagons
We now have available via 3 Foot 6 Models:
- LA class highsider wagon
- KP class box wagon
- LC class highsider wagon - both variations (ribbed and flat ends)
- UK class bogie container wagon - fully deck
- UK class bogie container wagon - open deck
- NC class flat wagon
- US class bogie flat wagon
- USL class bogie flat wagon - logs
- ZBP ends to convert UK wagons
Carriages and Guard's Vans
No further progress in this area, I plan to get to Simon Lister's guard's vans and carriages before the end of the year.
Track
PECO's HOm range is stocked by a number of hobby stores here in New Zealand, including Ironhorse Hobbies in Christchurch.
Wuiske Models has also released its own flex track, which looks very close to NZR standards. There is a slight height difference between Wuiske's track and PECO HOm.
I've also started the process of creating 3D printed sleepers for HOn3.5 - a few tweaks of a design I did a few years ago and we should be good to go for flex track style sleepers.
